Hoot aerobic systems are a popular choice in Southeast Texas, known for their durable fiberglass construction and straightforward maintenance. Manufactured in Texas, Hoot systems are designed specifically for the soil conditions and climate of the Gulf Coast region. Their compact footprint makes them well-suited for smaller residential lots common in Harris County subdivisions.
TCEQ-Approved Hoot Models
Hoot offers 12 TCEQ-approved models ranging from 500 to 1,500 GPD. The most common models in our service area are the Hoot 500, Hoot 750, and Hoot 1000 series. Hoot systems use a fixed-film aeration process that differs from the suspended-growth process used by most competitors, giving them some advantages in handling variable loading conditions.
Common Hoot Maintenance & Repair Issues
Common Hoot maintenance items include aerator replacement, media cleaning (the fixed-film media can accumulate biofilm that reduces treatment efficiency), chlorinator servicing, spray head maintenance, and pump float adjustment. Hoot's fiberglass tanks rarely have structural issues, but the access risers and lids should be inspected for seal integrity during each maintenance visit.
Our Hoot Maintenance Services
Hoot systems require the same TCEQ-mandated maintenance schedule as all aerobic systems — inspections every three months (quarterly) in Harris County with county reporting within 14 days. Our technicians are experienced with Hoot's unique fixed-film process and carry common Hoot-specific replacement parts.
Harris County Auto-Dialer Requirement
Harris County now requires cellular auto-dialer monitoring devices on all aerobic septic systems, including Hoot units. When your system triggers an alarm — high water, pump failure, aerator malfunction, or power loss — the dialer alerts our office immediately, and we are required to respond within 72 hours. Our maintenance contracts include 24/7 auto-dialer monitoring at no additional charge.
If your Hoot system does not yet have an auto-dialer installed, we can install an RMSYS RMS-812 cellular monitoring device during a maintenance visit. The installation is $750 (hardware + labor), and the monitoring service is included in your maintenance contract.
