Building a New Home? Start With the Septic System.
If you're building on property in unincorporated Harris County, Crosby, Huffman, Atascocita, or any area without municipal sewer service, your new home will need an on-site sewage facility (OSSF). The septic system should be one of the first things you plan — not an afterthought — because site conditions, soil type, and lot layout directly affect where your home can be placed and what type of system is required.
Harris County Septic handles every phase of new construction septic work: from initial feasibility studies through site evaluation, system design, permitting, installation, county inspection, and commissioning. As one of the only companies in northeast Harris County led by a Registered Sanitarian, we offer design authority that most installers cannot provide.
Our New Construction Process
1. Feasibility Study
Harris County requires an OSSF Feasibility Study when a new plat is required for your property. This study determines whether the property can support an OSSF and meets all requirements under the Harris County Local Order and 30 TAC 285. We conduct feasibility studies as part of our design services and submit them through the county's ePermits system.
2. Site Evaluation
Our Registered Sanitarian performs a comprehensive site evaluation that includes soil boring and analysis to determine percolation rates and soil type, water table depth assessment, topographic survey of the disposal area, setback verification from property lines, water wells, creeks, and structures, and identification of any environmental constraints. This evaluation determines which system type is appropriate for your property — conventional, aerobic, drip irrigation, or surface application.
3. System Design
Based on the site evaluation results, we design a custom OSSF tailored to your property. The design accounts for the number of bedrooms (which determines wastewater flow), soil absorption capacity, lot geometry and available disposal area, system type selection and component sizing, and compliance with all Harris County and TCEQ requirements. Design drawings are prepared to permit-ready specifications.
4. Permitting
We prepare and submit all required documentation to Harris County including the OSSF Permit Application, OSSF Affidavit to the Public, OSSF Acknowledgement of Testing Requirements, site evaluation report, disposal system plan, and flood insurance rate map reference. We coordinate directly with Harris County's Wastewater Permitting division to keep your project on schedule.
5. Installation
Our TCEQ-licensed installation crew handles excavation, tank placement, drainfield or disposal system construction, electrical connections (aerobic systems), piping from the home to the system, and all backfill and site restoration. We coordinate with your general contractor and builder to align septic installation with the overall construction schedule.
6. Inspection & Commissioning
After installation, we schedule the required Harris County inspection. Inspections must be called in by the licensed installer with at least 24 hours advance notice. Once the system passes inspection, we commission it — verifying all components are operational — and set you up with a maintenance contract to protect your investment.
For Builders & Developers
We work regularly with home builders, custom home builders, and developers on projects ranging from single-lot custom homes to multi-lot subdivisions. We offer volume pricing for multi-lot projects, consolidated permitting coordination, design standardization where site conditions allow, flexible scheduling to align with your construction timeline, and direct communication with your project manager or superintendent.
If you're developing lots in northeast Harris County, Montgomery County, or Liberty County, contact us early in your planning process. Site evaluation and system design should happen before lot layouts are finalized.
